Thursday, January 05, 2006just finished watching this documentary on national geographic, its about pakistan women and how they r being treated there. like men and kill them and burn them if they suspect their female relatives or wives r having affairs with other man, these killings r called 'honour killings'.i was so sad wtching that documentary k. like even they see their women just TALKING to their male relatives, they kill them, burn them. like pakistan women have no rights at all. dats probably bcos most of them r illiterate. and those men claimed that their religion taught them that and their holy books stated that 'if they see, they kill' and they have like no proof that the women r having affairs.like this woman, very strong btw, her husband caught her sitting on a man's bed(dont know if its true or not tho)so he used an axe and chopped off her ears, nose, dug out her eyes.and she was so brave to sue him, and now hes in jail.(yay)
and some really good souls hlped her to have free surgery in america.and her brother risked it all and hlped her throughout the thing.i was so touched by her bravery, her strength, like she really stood up for pakistan women, and her brother, for his love for his sister.and some independent activists who helped victims all the way.i really really sincerely hope that govt will really do something to improve the situations. thesed 'honour killings' r really getting all too common and no great actions being carried out.the president was really agitated when the host of d docu questioned y pakistan and spend billions on machinery and not on women who r being tortured, killed, insulted everyday.its just so sad.i cried.wish i can do sth to help.
pray for them ya?
