Tuesday, June 17, 2008 Back from Japan-land of the rising sun, or something like that.
the best thing ive gotten out from the trip besides the harmonica and DisneySea is a song- Tegami or Letter by Angela Aki.
I was about to sleep then i thought i should watch abit of Tv first and this programme showed with Angela Aki apparently touring schools to sing this song to students:
This is not the exact video that i watched, it is the only one i can find on youtube.
Anyway, when she started singing and playing the piano, i was completely mesmerized and arrested by the melody and the emotions she put out when singing. i dont understand a single word of it(besides 'keep on believing) yet i felt so touched and emotional like the students in the video. In this video, she actually cried at the end after singing it. To me, thats real music, you dont have to understand a word of the song to relate to the song, just pure melody, the sound of the instrument and the emotions within that song that are delievered by the singer are enough to arrest and captivate the listener. And that's good music. Music has no language/ethinic barriers! This song, to me, reminded me the basic simplicity of Music because I didnt know what she's singing, but i was affected by it. That's big.
Just like Damien Rice!
(not some senseless hip hop shit that sings, actually not even sing, just repeated beats, heavy basses, some dumb, irritating effects riffs and mumbling of 'yos' and 'Yeahhhs'READ:EGOISITIC AND THEY-THINK-IT'S-COOL-IF-THEY-WRITE-IT-IN-THE-SONG LYRICS about Sex, Booze and Drugs. I actually wrote a poem about this 'culture' in the music scene in sec school, i suddenly recall hahah. PERSONAL OPINION EVERYONE.)
