Friday, January 23, 2009 Schindler's List is a disturbing yet impactful movie, it is a true story. I love the scene in which Oskar Schindler blames himself for not saving enough Jews (he used up his entire fortune to 'buy' over 1,100 Jews from the (inhumane) SS Commander, Amon Geof) when he had to flee the country after the Germans surrendered. It was so touching how he cried and scolded himself; how he apologised to the Jews he saved for not saving their families and friends; how he blamed himself for not earning more money, for not selling his car, his Nazi badge (Yes, despite being a German and a Nazi, he saved the Jews) to come up with more money so he could 'buy' more Jews. And he broke down, all the Jews he saved crowded over him, hugged him. I cried like crazy in that scene and replayed it for like 4 times. I think that scene is so impactful because Oskar Schindler is portrayed as a ruthless businessman, a war profiteer, a womaniser but he is still capable of doing something so great-risk his businesses and his life and used his fortune to bribe SS officials and to provide food and shelter for the Jews he saved. Yet, he blames himself for not doing enough.
This is the scene:
I think the main message of the movie is that one man can indeed make a difference. Oskar Schindler did not just save 1,100 lives(even though it is a great deal already) he saved much more than that because that 1,100 lives will live on to make more differences because of what he did. Like what was engraved in the ring the workers gave him, "Whoever saves one life saves the world entire."
Adolf Hitler is a sick, inhumane and immoral bastard. I dont care if he is a great leader and all that crap that can potentially vindicate him, HE IS A SICK BASTARD.
I love the movie, everyone should go watch it at least once.
